Here at Sons of Toil Brewing we believe in hard work and giving back to the land and community which has given us so much. Each beer is hand crafted and brewed on site. We try and source all our ingredients locally when possible to support local farmers. All the wasted grain from the brewery is given to local farmers as free feed instead of going to a landfill. We want to be a community, environmentally, and family friendly brewery where people can have a good time with great people.
We were real skeptical about a brewery in the middle of nowhere. However, this place rocks. The four of us each tried four different beers, and amazingly, they were all excellent. I think the favorite was the Pineapple Hefe, with the juicy IPA coming in at a close second. All really good beers, you can’t go wrong. Pleasant indoor seating area, with an attractive outdoor section that fronts the woods. There was live music on the Sunday afternoon we visited, along with a food truck. All in all, one of the best breweries we visited on our two month road trip.
Curious about how we came up with our name? Keep reading below.
In reading the History of Brown County we came across this passage which became the inspiration of our name and overall theme. Our family like many in this area came from a long line of farmers who made their living through hard work and sacrifice.
"Green Township was slow in being peopled and improved; the land from Greenbush up to the northern boundary line comprising fully one-half of its acreage, is very flat and level, and was for years very swampy. The lands of Green have been ditched and drained, and now compare favorably in productive quality to any of Brown County. The old pioneer foreigners will leave a goodly heritage for their sons and daughters to enjoy.
All honor is due to those horny handed Sons of Toil, who left their native land and crossed the ocean, cast their lot in the swamp lands of Green Township, and by hard labor and unceasing toil, have made it what it now is."
